“Makan Al-Tazlil” meaning “The Place Of The Shading” is the exact place where The Prophetﷺ first sat in Quba on Hijrah, while Abu Bakr Siddiq RA Shaded Him.
The Prophetﷺ sat at a palm grove belonging to Kulthum ibn al-Hadm, the Tribe Leader from the Bani Amr ibn Awf, the Aws tribe that used to occupy the territory surrounding the current Quba Mosque Area.
When the Prophet first arrived from Makkah with Abū Bakr Siddiq RA, they relaxed at a palm grove belonging to Kulthum ibn al-Hadm, the Tribe Leader from the Bani Amr ibn Awf, the Awsi tribe that used to occupy the territory surrounding the current Qubā’ Mosque Area.
The people of Madinah came to greet them as they sat in the shade. When the sun rose in the sky & the heat grew more intense, Abū Bakr Siddiq RA rose to his feet and, using his shawl, shaded the Prophetﷺ from the rays of the sun.
Thereafter this location became known as Makān al Tazlīl, the Place of the Shading, and a mosque was erected where the palm tree stood, the ruins of which still exist today, but out of sight of visitors because it is on private property.
Near to the ruins of the mosque is a well, still used to irrigate the plantation, called the Well of Adhq, from which the Prophet is known to have drank on many occasions.
