After the demise of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, Hazrat Bilal رضي الله عنه left Madinah. One day, Hazrat Bilal رضي الله عنه was sleeping and saw Prophet Muhammad ﷺ in a dream saying him:
“O Bilal! What is this (you left madinah), isn’t it time for us to meet?”
When he woke up from his dream, sat on the camel! Saying: “O Messenger of ALLAH, I’m coming”, he left for Madinah.
When he entered in the Madinah, All before reaching the Prophet’s Masjid. Bilal رضي الله عنه eyes began to search for the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. Sometimes he looks into the masjid and sometimes in the homes. When not found anywhere then he went to his grave and laid his head on Prophet Muhammad ﷺ grave and started weeping and said: “O Messenger of Allah! You called me. “Your slave has come to meet you“.
He said this and fell unconscious near the Prophet ﷺ grave and regained consciousness after a long time. In the meanwhile, the news spread throughout Madinah that the muazzin of the Prophet ﷺ, Bilal رضي الله عنه had arrived. Old, young, men, women, and the children of Madinah came together and began to plead to Bilal رضي الله عنه. Please recite once the adhan which was recited in the time of the Beloved Prophet ﷺ.
Bilal رضي الله عنه said:
“I apologize because when I had recited the اشہد ان محمداً رسول اﷲ in Adhan, I had seen the Beloved Prophet ﷺ and cooled my eyes, Now when I will recite these words whom will I see?”
Some of the Companions, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, suggested that grandson of Prophet ﷺ [Hazrat Hasnain رضي الله عنه] be recommended to ask him for adhan. When Hazrat Hasnain رضي الله عنه asked Bilal رضي الله عنه for the adhan, he will not be able to refuse. So, Hazrat Imam Hussain رضي الله عنه took the hand of Hazrat Bilal (RA) and said:
“O Bilal رضي الله عنه ! Today we want to hear from you the same adhan that you recited in the time Prophet ﷺ in this masjid“
Now, Bilal رضي الله عنه had no choice to refuse, so he stood up and called for adhan at the place where he used to give the adhan in the life of the Holy Prophet ﷺ. The latter conditions are described in the books of travel as follows:
When he said loudly “اﷲ اکبر اﷲ اکبر“, Medina resonated (as he recited the next lines of adhan the emotions of people increased). When he recited “اشھد ان لا الہ الا اﷲ”, his voice became louder. When he recited “اشھد ان محمداً رسول اﷲ” All the people, even the veiled women, came out of their houses. It was a strange scene of tenderness and weeping. The people start shouting, “The time of Messenger of Allah ﷺ has come back.”
After the demise of the Prophet ﷺ no men or women were seen in Madinah crying more than that day.
